Death of A Scarecrow

Today, our scarecrow was cremated. He was only two years old, but coming apart at the seams and was no longer effective at scaring the crows away.
He was created by Gary and me in 2014 out of grapevines growing on our property and Talon's hay.  His hat was Tony B's, his boots and gloves were mine, and his jumpsuit was Mike's.  His head was a Halloween castoff.

He spent two years scaring the crows out of the vegetable garden, keeping eagles and hawks away from the chickens, and protecting Tinkerbell.

We will miss him.

But next Spring a new scarecrow will be formed with his head and hat and a new jumpsuit from Mike and new boots and gloves.  He will be stuffed using more grapevines from the garden and straw.

Adios, Mr. Scarecrow!

Grandson Stanley made the news in Bend, Oregon last Sunday
POSTED: 10:58 PM PDT May 10, 2015 UPDATED: 11:04 PM PDT May 10, 2015

Man falls 50 feet from Deschutes River cliff in Bend

Reportedly was alert, talking to medics

Bend fire truck (generic)
BEND, Ore. -
A man was injured in a reported 50-foot fall from a cliff along the west side of the Deschutes River in Bend Sunday night, but reportedly was alert and talking to responding fire medics, initial reports indicated.

A FRIEND APPARENTLY CALLED POLICE TO REPORT THE FALL SHORTLY BEFORE 9 P.M., WHICH OCCURRED MIDWAY BETWEEN THE BILL HEALY BRIDGE AND THE FOOTBRIDGE CROSSING THE DESCHUTES, ACCORDING TO INITIAL POLICE SCANNER REPORTS.
Authorities closed or limited traffic on the Billy Healy Bridge (Reed Market Road) for a time as they determined the best access route, which apparently turned out to be the riverfront dog park near Columbia Street and the Bend Park and Rec headquarters.
